Adelaide needs a group of trained badge-makers
[ message forwarded from Anne McMenamin ]

What we need is a group of 6 or so proficient badge-makers who could attend functions to sell badges, and, in some cases, make badges. What we have found (especially from the last couple of years at WOMAD) is that we are more likely to sell badges if there is someone sitting there making badges. (Ideally, having a computer and printer would allow badges to be made to order.) Possibly we could be available to conduct badge-making workshops if asked.

I got into badge-making in a big way for NOWAR during the opposition to the invasion of Iraq. Since then I have made badges for a wide range of organisations - the APC, ANTaR, Fair Go for David, APY suppport action, the Greens and the Democrats, etc. Mostly they have been designed by me, just using Word on my computer. Sometimes this means they don't look quite as professional as those made with "real" artwork. But it does have the great advantage that I can make a wide range of designs on the one issue, to appeal to different people. You can see a range of the badges on MySpace.

Unfortunately, I work as a gym coach, which means that I am often not available when things are happening - in the evenings and on the weekends. Hence the need to have a small pool of people who could contribute in this way. It is a great way to be able to contribute to a range of causes - and it's fun to do.

I own a machine for making the 54mm badges, and access to machines for the 35mm and the even smaller size. Green Left Weekly has a 35 mm machine which can be hired, and there are others which can be borrowed from various unions, etc.

I am happy to teach other people everything I know!! And if we can find some arty people who can do better designs than mine, so much the better.

Please contact me if you are interested. My home phone is 8447 5749.
