The latest in Indigenous music from students at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music (CASM). We're at the SA Folk Centre in Thebarton (... not far from the city and on the bus route) and the bands are all sounding great! Lots of soul, roots rap, metal and more.

Hope you can make it along.

Please amend this shameful legislation weakening both Australia's RDA & Social Security Entitlements

You set up this Intervention in Australia amongst the Australian Indigenous people. And we Indigenous people say that we should be living together, one country, one Prime Minister and seeing each other and treating each other equal. But nothing happens like that. You are dividing the nation into two. See. And that is very wrong. You should be shamed for yourself for that you know.'

Bagot Community Elder, Darwin NT

Dear Senator
I am urgently writing in support of Aboriginal People in the Northern Territory to express my deep concern at the legislation which is currently before the Senate concerning the proposed restoration of the Racial Discrimination Bill (RDA ) in relation to the NT Intervention. The suspension of the RDA which has brought Australia shame in the international arena must be restored – and in full measure. Its restoration must not be at the cost of itself being weakened by the ‘special measures’ clauses as in the present legislation. As Dr Alitya Rigney, Kaurna Elder SA states, ‘ Reinstate the RDA with all its powers for the First Peoples of this country. '
I am also gravely concerned that the present Government legislation includes Income Management being extended to non Aboriginal and other Aboriginal Australians across the nation . giving 'the Minister or Secretary' unprecedented and unchecked power in respect to those on Social Security Entitlements to declare ' any State, Territory/area' of Australia ' a disadvantaged area' - and automatically those under Centrelink in the specified categories are on the Basics Card The government claims this is non discriminatory legislation. In fact, it is both race and class discrimination – ‘discrimination by post code.’
After 2 years 8 months under the Intervention and over a billion dollars spent, much on bureaucratic practices , just 8 houses have been built for Aboriginal Territorians. I urge all Senators to ensure that funds be redirected to away for these punitive Intervention and national rollout of Income Management measures to positive facilities and services - I urge you to work to amend this unfair, shameful legislation which diminishes all Australians
