Land rights, not leases. Self determination, not assimilation. Aboriginal controlled housing, jobs and services Racism is not a special measure For dispelling the myths see below. For further information contact Sue on 0431112898 Did you know that; Prime Minister Rudd committed the government to, “a future where this Parliament resolves that the injustices of the past must never, never happen again”. But ongoing NT Intervention policies reek of the same paternalism and commitment to assimilation that created the Stolen Generations. Did you know that The Intervention has been a $1.5 billion disaster? The government has taken control of Aboriginal lives and land – but where are the promised houses? Did you know that communities will not receive housing until they sign leases over their land? Did you know that this policy, with all its punitive measures is being extended to non-Aboriginal disadvantaged communities in zones of interest, nationally? Did you know that the income quarantine is leading to greater poverty and social dislocation? Did you know that Government statistics show reports of domestic violence is up 61%, substance abuse up 77% and 13% more infants have been hospitalised for malnutrition. Minister Macklin has said the suspension of the Racial Discrimination Act has “denied dignity” to Aboriginal people. But her changes to Intervention legislation will see the RDA suspended until December 31, 2010. Did you know that despite the outcry from notable people and organisations, locally, nationally and around the world, criticising the suspension of the Racial Discrimination Act, the government still has not re-instated it Did you know that this failed policy of compulsory welfare quarantining is being extended to “areas of disadvantage” around the country? Compulsory acquisition of Aboriginal land and draconian police powers have been extended and rebadged? It has taken less than 3 years to complete this apartheid styled outrage that was NEVER about children but was ALWAYS about control of the resource rich land. Did you know that A local group called STICSA (STOP THE INTERVENTION COLLECTIVE SA) has been formed and and you can join by contacting Pilawuk on 0428994271 or Sue on 0431112898. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Pre-election public forum WHO DESERVES YOUR VOTE IN 2010?
