… around Government House…  gather @ dusk

Bring a candle!

Join us on the Candle Light Walk to call for a Treaty and Bill of Rights, and to support the Ngarrindjeri and all other Aboriginal people and the Stolen Generations, their families and communities left behind, in their call for Peace and Justice. Show them our strong lights for their rights and tell them how sorry we are for the wrongs they endure. Ask our Government to sit down and work out with the descendants of the Original Australians and their Stolen Generations how to repair the damage done. Ask our fellow Australians to join together to establish equal rights for us all.

If you can’t get to the Adelaide walk, start your own walk around your local government house/town hall.

Aims

Australians can show their support for a Treaty with Indigenous people and end Genocide.

Candles will be lit for justice and peace advocating an Indigenous Treaty via a Bill of Rights on the first Friday of each month (except January/February which are combined into the 26 January walk). Walkers meet with candles after gathering just before sunset at Government House.

The walk aims to protect and defend Ngarrindjeri and other Indigenous culture, spiritual beliefs, lands and waters. To stop any nuclear waste dump on traditional lands, from affecting the community and Indigenous environment.

History of the candlelight walk

During January 2000 a number of Ngarrindjeri people came together under the auspices of the Ngarrindjeri Land and Progress Association Inc (NLPA), with its Chairperson and Manager, Tom Trevorrow, to meet with lawyer Patrick Byrt, a volunteer Convenor of Reconciliation and Human Rights at the then Norwood Community Legal Service Inc, to discuss how to get a Ngarrindjeri involvement in activities on 26 January 2000.
